Meet Mr. Mackey

Mr. Mackey began teaching in West Covina, California, while on a brief sojourn on the West Coast, waiting for an opportunity to return to Texas. He's been teaching in Austin since 1985.

He holds a B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University and a M.A. in Outdoor Experiential Education from the University of Northern Colorado. He has also completed coursework at Tyler Junior College, Cal Poly Pomona, Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State), and the University of Texas.

Mr. Mackey and his wife (who also teaches at Bedichek) have two sons, both of whom attended Bedichek. One son graduated from Crockett High School in 2004 and from the University of Texas - San Antonio, where he played baseball, in 2008. The other son graduated from Crockett High School in 2008. He attends Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth and also plays baseball. Go Rams!

In his spare time Mr. Mackey loves road trips, the outdoors, stargazing, baseball, Texas, and family. This summer he and family visited Colorado, Wisconsin, and New York. Ask him about the Appalachian Trail, Cooperstown, the Gashouse Gang, Stone Mountain or the Runaway Scrape! By the way, do you know how the Los Angeles Dodgers got their name? (or, perhaps, Who's on First?)
